In 2015, Music and Poetic Drama Laboratory performed a theatre music “the end does not end” in the 100th anniversary of birth of Tadeusz Kantor at Theatre X, Tokyo. In 2016, we performed this theatre music as a Eurasian Opera in Armenia (Caucasus project), Russia (Moscow meeting) with impromptu musicians and singer who sing traditional music of her own country.</div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
In 2017, this theatre music altered differently by Jun Kawasaki’s new composition with chamber music. After premier we are going to perform it in Buryat Republic, Turkey, and Ukraine, and have performances in this September in Tokyo. Welcome to this premier and watch a moment in which new piece will be created.</div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
We are singing collection of mythology in the 21th century based on modern Chinese novel that describes about life of minority, nomadic, and hunting race who lived in border between Russia China, two World Wars, Russian Revolution, establishment of People’s Republic of China, and customs such as language and shamanism that being lost. This theatre music is constructed by songs and unique chorus system, and based on many locality and life of minority groups. According to a certain kind point of view, it can connect to modern Latin American Arts such as García Marchez and could be called Magic realism of North East Asia.</div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
There has been Silk Road on Eurasian Continent from ancient times. We will be Marebito (visitors from afarworld), going and making new ways. Encounters of the Far East music, Asian music, and European music are making new Eurasian ways.</div>

"db-ll-bass" is a highly unique sound-movement piece, by Aydin Teker, a Turkish choreographer, and Jun Kawasaki, a Japanese contrabassist. Pursuing the relationship among the sound, body, and musical instrument., it was performed in Istanbul in October 2012, and Tokyo and Yokohama in February 2013. This is a clip of the performance in Istanbul. For the details of the project, visit the official website: http://db-ll-base.jimdo.com/</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
"db-ll-bass - sound, body, and instrument" is a project of research and practical collaboration between a choreographer who viewed a body playing music as dance, and a musician who seeked the source of sound and music in his body while playing music. The piece was performed in Istanbul, Turkey, in Oct. 2012, and Yokohama and Tokyo, Japan, in Feb. 2013. This is the record of the performance in Tokyo. For the details of the project, please visit the official website (http://db-ll-base.jimdo.com/).</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Japan Foundation will be conducting a project called "Sound Migration" which is a contemporary music collaboration between Japan and Turkey. Four musicians and an actress will be working together in Istanbul, Turkey, in September, to create new pieces, and then in the beginning of October will be performing them in Izmir, Cairo, and Budapest as well as Istanbul. The performance in Istanbul will be held as the opening in the 'Istanbul International Contemporary Dance & Performance Festival (iDANS)'. Furthermore, the performances in Istanbul and Izmir will be a part of the 'Japan Year 2010 in Turkey'.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Coming together from the two countries will be: Kazuki Kunihiro, a Japanese composer; Saadet Türköz, a Kazakh Turkish vocalist; Jun Kawasaki, a Japanese contrabassist; Şevket Akinci, a Turkish improvisational guitarist; and Micari, a Japanese actress. These five persons, all soloists in their own right, provide an extremely intense sound as well physical movement and they use this intensity to construct a world that is something quite unique, which is the reason for their being selected.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Türköz's keen individuality, a blend of Central Asian narrative tradition and jazz improvisation, cannot be without influence from the fact that her parents had fled East Turkistan as refugees and made their way to Turkey over the course of more than ten years. Kawasaki and Akinci, utilizing the high level improvisation techniques, will explore the connection between 'self' and 'other', which will not likely be something reducible in meaning to national differences. Micari, through her unique expressiveness, which rouses the imagination of the audience, will undoubtedly liberate the body movement from its subordination to the music. The creative process of these five individuals from completely differing backgrounds is expected to produce a harmony as well as a deliberately persisting sense of heterogeneity. Standing at the center of this subtle balance and giving it a sense of wholeness is Kunihiro who displays a sure-footed compositional ability in his international theatrical collaborations. It is this harmony together with the diversity of elements that generates the power to create a new music and makes this project something to believe in.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The pieces will be developed for three weeks in Istanbul. The whole work will be comprised of eight musical scenes. The five performers together with these scenes will be allowed to freely 'migrate' through the joint creative process, recurring in altered forms and, in due course, bringing forth an evocative world of sound. It will be an original act of creation that cuts off a slice of 'now,' the present moment, where the migration of peoples is occurring on a global scale.</div>

Other Ghosts who had died at Sonezaki river are going along the river. Can they arrive at the sea? Or can they not arrive at anywhere? This plot is based on Japanese traditional Ningyo joruri play Shinjyu Ten-no-amijima. It is a famous story of a lovers’ suicide that was written by Chikamatsu Monzaemon in the Edo period. </div>

Turkey and Central Asia, the heroic tales of Dede Korkut – the singing and lute-playing sage of the Oghuz – are recounted with the same esteem as that preserved for the Nibelungenlied in Germany. A brutal rape led to the birth of the »Cyclops« Tepegöz. Born into an alien world, he was not only hated but also became the bitter enemy of the Oghuz, whose acceptance he desperately desired. This dramatic conflict forms the backdrop for a project that offers a dynamic amalgam of music, images, text, bodies and song. Marc Sinan’s work is based on documentary videos of Central Asian musicians which he and Markus Rindt filmed during their extensive journeys through Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, along with video interviews with young Istanbul-based literati, philosophers and thinkers about their take on the story of Tepegöz. The Oghuzian narrative tradition teams up with the many resources of modern theatre and traditional music meets contemporary compositions, thereby opening up a dialogue between medieval folklore and the present day.<br />

»Dede Korkut« – Marc Sinan’s docufictional musical theatre – features a blend of contemporary choreography, audio and video installation, modern compositions and traditional music. Guest musicians from Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan pool their talents to give a concert with the Dresdner Sinfoniker. Aydin Teker’s unconventional approach transforms soloists – such as the singer Jelena Kuljić, the double-bass player Jun Kawasaki, the sub-contrabass flute player Sascha Friedl and the guitarist Marc Sinan – into objects of choreographic intervention. Projected images from Central Asia set the room in motion. And in recognition of Adolphe Appias’s revolutionary work at the Festspielhaus Hellerau in Dresden in the early days of the 20th century, the musicians play at different levels within the room. The libretto combines a poetic reinterpretation of the traditional tale of »Tepegöz« with voices from the literature scene in Istanbul who over the course of video interviews give their contemporary take on this legend which is of fundamental importance to the self-image of Turkish-speaking nations.</div>

<div>
In the myth, the »Cyclops« Tepegöz stands for the apparently eternal outsider with whom even an orphan like Dede Korkut is unable to negotiate a form of coexistence. The project combines the ambivalences of the literary original with the folk tunes of Central Asia. This myth, which has been handed down from generation to generation, is reinterpreted as a reflection on the »loneliness« of Tepegöz, replete with anger, sadness, pride and violence. The »case« is seen from the perspective of the one-eyed misfit and therefore not just refers to the mythically outlined fate of a single individual but also has a subtextual significance within the context of European – and global – conflict situations. »Dede Korkut« aims to make ambiguities tangible using the powerful and archaic poetry that can be found in both the actual legend and in the traditional music of Central Asia.</div>

Synopsis</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
An Oghuzian shepherd rapes a nymph at a sacred place. This crime results in the birth of a one-eyed child and the onset of an irredeemable curse. Arus, an Oghuzian knight, takes the orphaned »Cyclops« into his home and raises him side by side with his own son Bassat. But Tepegöz proves to be untameable and is ultimately chased away into the lonely expanse of the steppe. His mother, the nymph, appears to him in his hour of need. She gives him a present of a ring that renders him invincible. The outcast quickly becomes a deadly threat to the Oghuz people, who call upon the singer Dede Korkut to negotiate a »false« peace with Tepegöz, who nevertheless continues his killing spree, leading Bassat to vow to kill his »milk brother«. Tepegöz takes him captive in the mistaken belief that he’s just an unknown warrior. But Bassat succeeds in dazzling the sleeping »Cyclops« using the same ploy as Odysseus. At the end of a fierce duel, Tepegöz finds out that the man who is about to kill him is his very own brother.<br />

The Japan Foundation will be conducting a
project called "Sound Migration" which is a contemporary music
collaboration between Japan and Turkey. Four musicians and an actress
will be working together in Istanbul, Turkey, in September, to create
new pieces, and then in the beginning of October will be performing them
in Izmir, Cairo, and Budapest as well as Istanbul. The performance in
Istanbul will be held as the opening in the 'Istanbul International
Contemporary Dance & Performance Festival (iDANS)'. Furthermore, the
performances in Istanbul and Izmir will be a part of the 'Japan Year
2010 in Turkey'.<br />
<br />
Coming together from the two countries will be: Kazuki
Kunihiro, a Japanese composer; Saadet Türköz, a Kazakh Turkish vocalist;
Jun Kawasaki, a Japanese contrabassist; Şevket Akinci, a Turkish
improvisational guitarist; and Micari, a Japanese actress. These five
persons, all soloists in their own right, provide an extremely intense
sound as well physical movement and they use this intensity to construct
a world that is something quite unique, which is the reason for their
being selected.<br />
<br />
Türköz's keen individuality, a blend of Central Asian narrative
tradition and jazz improvisation, cannot be without influence from the
fact that her parents had fled East Turkistan as refugees and made their
way to Turkey over the course of more than ten years. Kawasaki and
Akinci, utilizing the high level improvisation techniques, will explore
the connection between 'self' and 'other', which will not likely be
something reducible in meaning to national differences. Micari, through
her unique expressiveness, which rouses the imagination of the audience,
will undoubtedly liberate the body movement from its subordination to
the music. The creative process of these five individuals from
completely differing backgrounds is expected to produce a harmony as
well as a deliberately persisting sense of heterogeneity. Standing at
the center of this subtle balance and giving it a sense of wholeness is
Kunihiro who displays a sure-footed compositional ability in his
international theatrical collaborations. It is this harmony together
with the diversity of elements that generates the power to create a new
music and makes this project something to believe in.<br />
<br />
The pieces will be developed for three weeks in Istanbul. The whole work
will be comprised of eight musical scenes. The five performers together
with these scenes will be allowed to freely 'migrate' through the joint
creative process, recurring in altered forms and, in due course,
bringing forth an evocative world of sound. It will be an original act
of creation that cuts off a slice of 'now,' the present moment, where
the migration of peoples is occurring on a global scale.</div>

Improvisational vocalist. Born of Kazak parents who fled
Eastern Turkistan (Uyghur autonomous region) as political refugees and
made their way to Istanbul, as a child, Türköz learned the traditional,
rich narrative styles of Central Asia in the Kazak community in Istanbul
where she lived, which, along with the echoes of the free versification
of the Koran which she heard sung daily, formed the basis of her later
style. When she was 20 years old she moved to Zurich, Switzerland, and
there encountered free jazz and experimental music, which she applied
layer by layer to her own musical roots eventually arriving at her
present style. She is presently based in Zurich and involved in solo
activities working with musicians from many countries including: Elliot
Sharp (guitar/sax, US), Fred Frith (multi-instrumentalist, US), Nils
Wogram (trombone, Germany), Koch-Schuetz-Studer Trio
(Switzerland),?Satoshi Kakeishi (drum, Japan/US), etc. Samples of
Türköz's music can be heard at her home page: <a href="http://www.saadet.ch/index-flash.html">http://www.saadet.ch/index-flash.html.</a><br />
